Why should I hire NSEP Alumni?

NSEP award recipients generally come from the top 15% of the academic student community, and they offer unmatched professional expertise and advanced cultural and language skills in less-frequently studied geographic areas considered critical to U.S. national security.

NSEP award recipients are seeking federal employment and are eligible to be hired on a non-competitive basis under the Schedule A hiring authority (5 CFR 213.3102(r)) or under the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2010 (NDAA'10). These hiring authorities allow for any federal agency with national security responsibilities to appoint NSEP hires to the "Excepted Service." Those hired under NDAA'10 may be non-competitively converted to a career or career-conditional appointment in the competitive service after two years of continuous service.
